After conquering Asia's Biggest and most prestigious Film Festival - Busan Film Festival and 47th Chicago International Film Festival within a month, the much talked about film Dekh Indian Circus has now won at the 17th International Children's Film Festival that concluded yesterday at Hyderabad. The film won the 2nd Best Film award and emerged runner-up toChillar Party.
Busan had thousands of people as the audience, in the age group of 16-40 years who voted the Film as the Best and made it win the Audience Choice Award for Best Film from 3000 films worldwide and amongst 380 films screened.
In 16 years of the History of Busan, this is the First Indian Film to win this acclaimed and prestigious award. The Film has already received rave reviews from International Critics and reporters from Hollywood Reporter, Variety and Screen International.
Director Mangesh Hadawale (who directed the National Award winning film -Tingya) says, "Busan had an older audience, as compared to the young children in Hyderabad; but after receiving tremendous response from both segments, we are convinced that this film will be well-received commercially and win hearts of all age-groups.1,75,000 kids attended the Festival overall as the Audience and the kind of response we received from the children and the members of the trade fraternity, is heart warming."
One of the film's producers, actor Vivek Oberoi says, "I am so proud to associate with Dekh Indian Circus which is making India and all of us proud".
In another proof that Indian cinema is reaching across borders, an Indian production, Dekh Indian Circus, has won the ‘Audience Choice best popular film award’ at the 16th Busan International Film Festival, held at Busan, Korea, recently. The movie, directed by National Award-winning director Mangesh Hadawale, is the first Indian film ever to win at this festival.
Dekh Indian Circus stars Virendra Singh Rathod, Suhani Oza, Tannishtha Chatterjee and Nawazuddin Siddiqui. It is produced by Anil Lad, Vivek Oberoi, Chirag D Shah and Mahaveer S Jain of Sundial Pictures. The music has been composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy and the lyrics are by Prasoon Joshi. Laxman Utekar is the DoP, while Wayne Sharpe has scored the background music.
On winning the award, Hadawale said, “Truth is beautiful and universal; hence a good film does not need immense creativity but courage to say the truth creatively and honestly”. The film is scheduled for a worldwide release in early 2012.
