vidya balan @ Dirty Picture Movie Music Launch in Mumbai (India)

The film ‘The Dirty Picture’ is a story based on the life of controversial south Indian actress Vijayalaxmi, popularly known as Silk Smitha. Vidya Balan is playing the character of Silk Smitha along with Tusshar Kapoor, Hashmi and Naseeruddin Shah.

The film’s music was launched at The Inorbit Mall, Malad in Mumbai on Friday evening. Vidya Balan, Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi, Tusshar Kapoor, Bappi Lahiri, Shreya Ghoshal, Ekta Kapoor and Milan Luthria were present at the audio launch of ‘The Dirty Picture’.

Vidya Balan delivered a live performance at the event, singing and dancing in true filmi style. Interestingly, this is the first time that the 33-year-old actress performed live on stage.

Vidya Balan danced to the ‘Ooh la la’ number with other artists at the music launch. Emraan Hashmi, Naseeruddin Shah, Tusshar Kapoor, Bappi Lahiri and Shreya Ghoshal also performed at the event live.

Bappi Lahiri and Shreya Ghoshal rendered the chart-busting ‘Ooh La La’ while Kamal Khan crooned the romantic Ishq Sufiyana.

The performance was optimistic that the audience would appreciate the film and its music. Meanwhile, Tusshar Kapoor appreciated Balan for her performance in the movie. Speaking about his role in the movie, Kapoor said that his character in the film was a very colourful.

“With the way people have accepted and liked the music I hope they also like the film. I had never thought I would get to perform on Bappi Da’s song. I am happy to be part of this film and do this performance,” Vidya told reporters. “I hope the film creates history,” Hashmi added.

The music of the film is composed by Vishal-Shekhar and Rajat Aroraa has written the lyrics.

Directed by Milan Luthria and produced by Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor, the film is slated to hit the screens on December 02, 2011, on the birth anniversary of Smitha.

Vidya Balan seemed in the mood to give buxom basics a loaded retro spin when she kickstarted the publicity campaign of her upcoming release, The Dirty Picture, at the film's music launch on Friday.

Departing from the norm of inviting only the press at a film's music launch, producer Ekta Kapoor had decided to make Friday's event, held at a suburban mall in Mumbai, an open-to-all affair.

A 2000-odd crowd gathered in no time as the word spread that Vidya would take to stage with co-stars Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor.

Veteran Naseer threw in a surprise act before Vidya took to the stage. He did an impromptu dance - possibly his first ever in a live show - that had the crowds applauding.

The heat was on once Vidya took to the stage, dressed in a garish pink 80s-style Bollywood dance outfit that liberally defined her curves and had a plunging neckline. Pearl strings on her blouse, around the midriff, on her wrists and on her ankles completed the look.

She looked every bit a new-age version of Silk Smitha, the eighties sex siren she essays in the movie.

Vidya gyrated to Ooh la la , the song from the film which is fast turning into a rage. The focus of course was less on songs and more on Vidya's bust thrusts as the star of the evening let herself go to the beats of the sexy number that marks the comeback of veteran composer- singer Bappi Lahiri as a playback voice. It was the first time that Vidya, 33, performed live on stage.

"People have accepted the music and I hope they also like the film. I had never thought I would get to dance to Bappi Da 's tunes," Vidya said after her performance.

Although the actress did her sexy number in the sizzling pink outfit, she must have realised later that the attire was a bit too revealing for the rest of the event. A near wardrobe malfunction moment occurred when Vidya bent down to touch the film's director Milan Luthria's feet.

So, once her dance was over, Vidya quickly ran off to her vanity and returned to the stage in a red saree with white polka dots, very much in sync with the retro image she presents in the film.

Apart from Vidya, Emraan too managed to generate some noise among the audience.

If Ekta was hoping for a bombastic way to kick off the publicity blitz for The Dirty Picture, scheduled to release on December 2, Vidya gave her just that.

Vidya Balan was 'oomph personified' as she danced to the tunes of 'Ooh la la' at The Dirty Picture music launch on Friday.
Vidya Balan shook her booty to Bappi Lahiri's popular song 'Ooh la la' from The Dirty Picture. With this, Vidya kickstarted the publicity campaign of her upcoming release, The Dirty Picture at the film's music launch on November 4, 2011.

The producer of The Dirty Picture, Ekta Kapoor decided to break from the usual norm of inviting only the press at the music launch. Instead, The Dirty picture music launch event was held at a suburban mall in Mumbai.
As soon as the word spread that Vidya Balan along with co-stars Naseeruddin Shah, Emraan Hashmi and Tusshar Kapoor would perform on stage, a crowd of approximately 2,000 people gathered to have a glimpse of Vidya, who appeared in a gorgeous pink 80s-style filmi dance outfit revealing her curves and cleavage.
Vidya danced without any inhibition and flaunted her cleavage to the maximum. Her bust thrusts got thousands asking for more. This was the first time that Vidya Balan performed live on stage. Vidya, in fact was in the verge of a wardrobe malfunction when she bent to touch director Milan Luthria's feet.

Vidya Balan, who realised that she was revealing too much rushed to her vanity van soon after her performance and returned in a red saree with white polka dots to match her look in the film. Naseeruddin Shah, who did a jig before Vidya made her entry got a lot of applause from the public. Emraan Hashmi also managed to get quite a lot of attention.
However, the show stealer was undoubtedly the voluptuous Vidya Balan.

Vidya Balan, who essays the role of yesteryears south siren Silk Smitha in The Dirty Picture said in a recent interview that as Vijayalaxmi or Silk Smitha is popularly known was bold and fearless, she was exploited in a wrong way.
Directed by Milan Luthria, The Dirty Picturechronicles the life of controversial South Indian actress Silk Smitha. In an interview with the PTI, Vidya Balan said, “In real life, Silk was very very ahead of her time. She took pride in what she did and was never ashamed in what she was doing.”
Terming her as bindaas and fearless, Vidya Balan said that Silk Smitha was someone who wanted to live to the fullest. Vidya added, “She believed in taking every opportunity and living every moment and was not bothered about what people talk or think. There was some childishness in her but she was fearless.”
Elaborating on Silk Smitha, Vidya Balan said, “People think Silk was bold only because she used to dress up or pose in certain way...but this was one part of her fearlessness. Some even felt she was shameless but I don't think she was. Today, girls are in complete command of their life and sexuality.. they are unapologetic and take pride in whatever they do. Silk was like that back then. And which is why she was misunderstood and people exploited that in a wrong way.”
