Sharman, Ranvijay And Rana @ Louis Phillipe Speed Challenge

The Louis Phillipe LP Speed Challenge 2011 kickstarted its first round at the Oberoi Mall in Mumbai. The LP speed challenge was hosted by Rannvijay Singh and had Sharman Joshi and Rana Dagubatti take on the online racing challenge. Louis Philippe, a brand with a rich heritage that spells class and perfect style has in the recent past introduced LP Louise Philippe which targets a younger, more fun and definitely very chic generation of men. Rannvijay looking dapper in an LP shirt had the girls screaming and super excited as he spoke about the rules of the game and the awesome prizes. He is a motor sport enthusiast himself (the original Roadie) and the idea of a brand like LP associating with motor sport rather than cricket was extremely refreshing for him!

The Speed Challenge 2011 will select ten winners from the online 2D gaming challenge. There will be ten others chosen from the 3D game that you can play at Louise Philippe stores across six cities. The finalists will compete in a real go-carting race in Bangalore on the June 18, 2011. The winner will get an all expense paid trip to Singapore to watch the race with a partner. I am not a speed freak or anything, but the prize has me tempted to give it a shot! Rannvijay also picked three people from the audience to come on stage and take on the challenge. The aim was to try and beat Sharman’s timing and the winners received a goodie hamper from LP.

As the event was about fashionable clothing as well, we decided to do a little style check with the three men and speak to them about their style statement, their picks for this summer and their take on the newest trends. The interviews were very interesting as each of them had a very distinct and racy take on the look to sport this season.

Amitabh Bachchan And Abhishek Bachchan @ Singham Screening

Advance screenings of Reliance Entertainment’s eagerly awaited blockbuster release, ‘Singham’, have generated staggering praise among the industry’s most respected critics and stars. Rohit Shetty’s tribute to the classic, Indian action flick, starring a beefed-up Ajay Devgn, has earned widespread adulation among all the right circles, building the anticipation and buzz among cinemagoers ahead of the film’s Opening Weekend.

Leading film critic, Taran Adarsh, has given the film 4.5 out of 5 stars, commenting, “SINGHAM is a full-on masala film that works big time for varied reasons: The energetic drama, the terrific confrontations, the raw stunts and of course, for the three ‘heroes’ – Ajay Devgn, Prakash Raj and director Rohit Shetty. It’s a complete package of entertainment for the masses and devoted fans of masala movies. This one is sure to roar at the box-office. It has Blockbuster written all over it!”

Following a special screening of the film yesterday, veteran of Indian cinema, Amitabh Bachchan, commented on Twitter, “SINGHAM! Everything right for a complete masala entertainer, going to be big! Especially in Maharashtra. Well done Ajay/Rohit.”

Abhishek Bachchan, who joined his father for the special screening, wrote on Twitter beforehand, “Bachchan boyz night out!!!! Sr and jr off to see Singham. Let’s see how loud the lion roars.” Following the screening, the actor posted, “And the lion roars LOUD!!!!! ‘Singham’ is one film you don’t want to miss. Go for it and then go again!!!”

In praise of Ajay Devgn’s amazing six-pack physique in the film, fellow Bollywood heavyweight, Salman Khan, even posted Ajay’s bare body pictures on his own profile, complimenting the actor’s hard work. He commented, “Bajirao Singham ne kya body banieeeeee . Kamaal karte ho yaar Devgn, Oye teri! Baap re baap. Superb Ajay’s body is looking too good.” Before Salman it was Riteish Deshmukh who had complimented Ajay on his new look for the film.

‘Singham’ pays homage to the age-old tradition of the classic, Indian action film, famed for gravity defying stunt sequences and a heavy-handed dose of ‘dishoom. It heralds the bygone days of fist-to-fist combat scenes and carefully coordinated fight choreography – a lost art in today’s screen age of high-tech gadgetry and superimposed special effects.

Amitabh Bachchan And Deepika Padukone @ UTV Bindass

Deepika Padukone rocked her hourglass figure in a nude bandage dress at the launch of UTV's new TV show 'Publicity Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega' on Monday, July 25 at Mehboob Studios in Bandra, Mumbai.

The 25-year-old model turned actress was joined at the presser by her Aarakshan co-stars Amitabh Bachchan and Manoj Bajpai, and director Prakash Jha.

Deepika's body hugging below knee length dress had cap sleeves and a revealing square neckline.

Cranberry lipstick and thick liner on lids rounded her drool worthy look.

Justifying the use of the show to plug their new film, Deepika said: "We are doing what everyone else does. Promoting a film is very important before its release. There are so many mediums to use such as internet, print so its necessary to communicate about the film."

Talking about the subject of her film, Aarakshan (Reservation), she told the gathered media: "When I got admission into college it was through sports quota, so my college did have reservation for athletes and for people who have excelled in sports."

UTV Bindass channel's new Bollywood show is designed to promote new films. The 30 minute show will feature unedited scenes and behind the scene moments from the film being promoted on it along with star cast interviews and fun-games related to the flick.

Amitabh Bachchan @ Aarakshan Press Conference

Amitabh Bachchan has exchanged his psychedelic shirts and colourful scarves from “Bbuddah Hoga Terra Baap” for a shawl and kurta in Prakash Jha’s “Aarakshan”, a film that sees him portraying an upright school principal.

Bachchan spoke to Reuters about the film, his own school and college years, and what he thinks of India’s education system.

Q: From a flamboyant character in “Bbuddah” to a completely different role in “Aarakshan”, is there a particular preference for a particular kind of role?

A: “As an actor you enjoy doing everything that comes your way. So it was enjoyable doing ‘Bbuddah’ and it was equally enjoyable doing ‘Aarakshan’. As actors, particularly at this age, it is interesting to get a variety of roles. This was not possible earlier on. When you were younger, you played the leading man which is more or less stereotyped, but with age and character roles coming your way, you get an opportunity to do different kinds of roles.”

Q: Would you say you’ve widened your range of roles with age?

A: “No, I think this is a phase, in which as an actor you do different kinds of things. So yes, it has been challenging. When I first joined movies, I thought I wouldn’t last a couple of months, but fate has been kind and the love of the people has been good.”

Q: This is your first time working with Prakash Jha. How was that?

A: “Very nice. I’ve always admired his work and have been very keen to work with him for some time now. Every time we’ve met, we’ve expressed this desire but we never had an opportunity until this film, when he narrated the story to me and here we are.”

Q: You play an upright school principal in “Aarakshan”. What is your reading of the education system in India?

A: “The character that I play is called Prabhakar Anand. He teaches mathematics but he is head of an institute which is run by a private trust and therefore the question of reservation doesn’t come in there. But because he has such idealistic thoughts and cares about other sections of society that are underprivileged, even though he teaches in this private institute, he holds classes in his own backyard every day where he teaches students from lesser privileged homes. These children never get an opportunity, and were they to get that opportunity, they would excel.

“He is not somebody that propagates reservation. Reservation is something that nobody can propagate. It is something that is part of our system. It has been accepted and documented in our parliamentary system, our legal system. You can’t get away from it. It is something we have inherited, a kind of social order that has prevailed in our society, and whatever has been designed as a result of that, is there through proper democratic representation. But there are many other sub-texts that come up off the whole process of reservation.

“‘Aarakshan’ is a film not based entirely on this one subject. It deals with the issue of commercialisation of the educational system and how as a result of the process of reservation there are several tributaries that have come out of this process which are making it look as though. if you have the money then you can get educated. Or, if you belong to a certain caste, you will be given a privileged position. But there are those who are deprived of means, that are alienated because of their caste and creed. What of them? That is what the film deals with.”

Q: What were the kind of hurdles you faced as a student?

A: “I was very fortunate I went to a college where this consideration wasn’t there. I know that there are many who suffer on that count, so I was lucky.”

Q: Were there any apprehensions on doing a political film?

A: “This is not a political film. Yes, if someone wants to read into something, they can read into a ‘Bbuddah’ also. That is a separate issue. Nobody wants to challenge the political system, or do whatever it is. This is not one of those films. There were no apprehensions. You look at the role, you look at the film.”

Q: Who were your heroes or mentors when you were studying?

A: “I have always been closely associated with my parents. Whatever I have gained, I have gained from my father. I didn’t need to go anywhere else, because I found the biggest source of inspiration in them.”

Q: Any piece of advice that your parents gave you while you were studying?

A: “The usual. Study hard, play harder. My mother was more keen … my father was not such a keen sports enthusiast. Honesty, hard work, that’s it.”

Anushka Sharma @ Vogue Beauty Awards

July 29, 2011, (Sawf News) - Anushka Sharma dropped jaws in a Stella McCartney satin jumpsuit at the Vogue Beauty Awards 2011 at Hotel Taj Lands End in Bandra, Mumbai on Thursday, July 28.

Anushka's shimmery ankle length jumpsuit had round collar, long sleeves, rolled up to her elbows; and a waist band. The trousers had thigh baring side slits flaunting her toned legs.

The 24-year-old accessorized with strappy nude and silver heels and Tod's limited edition golden silk satin clutch embellished with rhinestones.

Her side parted sleek hair draped her right shoulder. She wore silver eye shadow and berry lipstick.

Anushka was one of the award winners of the evening.

This week in style saw a cascade of free-flowing garments all set to the groove of summer. The Vogue Beauty Awards 2011 saw new girls on the block, Shraddha Kapoor and Anushka Sharma in neutral garb; the former wearing a flattering burnt sienna gown, and the latter opting for a summery Stella McCartney jumpsuit.

Other attendees of the night - Madhuri Dixit, Dia Mirza and Tisca Chopra all donned classic noir, with Dia adding a touch of glitz with sequins. Dramatic colors took center-stage as Rachel Weisz wore cult favorite Valentino in signature red and Freida Pinto graced Comic Con 2011 in an effervescent yellow Michael Kors number.

If Madhuri took the safe route and went for an elegant gown, Anushka Sharma’s chic satin dress took our breath away. Not everyone can sport that look; you need attitude to carry the dress and also a pair of shapely long legs, which, of course, Anushka has. However, we were a bit disappointed with Dia Mirza; there was nothing vibrant about her look except that glow on her face. Lakme gal Shraddha Kapoor was also at the event and though we always like what she wears, this time her dress looked bland.

Miss India Kanishtha Dhankar donned a printed dress with an awful draping. But the stunning lassie confidently pulled off the look. We also saw the radiant Harleen Kaur, Miss India Earth 2011, in a pristine white gown. Yes, she did look like coming straight from the beauty contest.

Singam Director Rohit Shetty Sells Tickets @ Multiplex

The director of Singham, Rohit Shetty, is leaving no stone unturned to promote his movie post-release. He was snapped selling tickets at the Fame Cinemas’ box-office.

Rohit is extremely happy with the film’s success at the box office. Singham is a remake of the Tamil hit movie Singam, which starred Surya and Anushka Shetty in the lead, and was directed by Hari. The film is a high octane action movie and during the making itself the movie generated buzz because of its action sequences.

At the multiplex, Rohit not only posed for the cameramen, but also posed with the crowd. He kept it casual and clubbed his white shirt with a pair of denims.

Director Rohit Shetty is all set to bowl over audiences with the action of his next film Singam. For the uninitiated, Singam is the remake of the Tamil hit by the same name and features Rohit's best buddy Ajay Devgn along with newcomer Kajal Aggarwal.

The director, who is known for his flair for comedy, is ecstatic to return to an action-packed film after a long time. Singam is all set to hit floors on 2nd March and the news is that Rohit has conceptualized, designed and will be executing the action for the film himself.

The action of the film has been designed on an extravagant level. For the very first sequence, the director plans to blow up 20 cars. When quizzed on this particular action sequence, Rohit said, "The scene is set in a parking lot, where a kidnapping takes place. It is a chase scene between Ajay and some gangsters, for which we will require to blow up cars. In the shot, there will be about 200 cars, out of which we will be blowing up 20 cars."

Sonakshi Sinha @ Delhi Couture Week 2011

Dabangg girl Sonakshi Sinha sat transfixed on the front row of SynergyOne Delhi Couture Week 2011 and oohed and aahed at Sonam Kapoor, who started the fashion show for designer Manish Malhotra

This was a first, that a young and upcoming actress so openly complimented the looks of another contemporary. And that title now goes to Sonakshi Sinha, who after doing the showstopping act for designer duo Santanu and Nikhil came back within 30 minutes to sit and watch designer Manish Malhotra's show on Sunday, July 24 at SynergyOne Delhi Couture Week 2011. Sonam Kapoor started the show for Manish and Sonakshi was absolutely zapped by Sonam's beautiful avatar on the ramp.

Bollywood actress Sonam Kapoor dazzled on Sunday night as she walked the ramp in noted fashion designer Manish Malhotra's couture show as a surprise showstopper on the third-day of the ongoing Synergy1 Delhi Couture Week in the capital.

Dressed in white lehenga and heavily embroidered red backless overcoat with embellished gold work, the actress opened the designer's bridal collection inspired from the old world charm and majestic opulence of royalty that prevailed in India during 1930-1940.

Actress Urmila Matondkar also made a rare guest appearance for Manish's show.

The collection was an amalgamation of traditional and contemporary silhouettes with a touch of British influence.
"I have reinterpreted the 1930 and 1940s style of clothing in my designs. The collection had a flare of everything that a couture garment should have. I felt it's the time to move away from duplication and revisit the classic style with glamorous look," said Manish Malhotra.

The women's wear included ghagaras, lehengas, suits and saris and the colour palatte ranged from cherry reds and burgundy with tones of mint green, aqua, and off whites.

Unlike other designers, Manish was the first one to show both women's wear and men's wear on the ramp at the ongoing couture week.

The men's wear collection showcased heavily embroidered shervanis in shades of black, burgundy, royal blue, beige and gold.

"I also showcased men's wear line because I thought why to keep the bridegrooms alone. They are as conscious of their style nowadays as the brides. It's time they also get their due importance," said Manish.

Also present in the front row was actress Sonakshi Sinha, who previously walked the ramp for Shantanu-Nikhil's show, besides Shweta Nanda and Jas Arora.
